When someone calls us (Boquete Mountain Safari) for a tour, we are asked, all the time: What should I wear? At this point it is often too late to include those hiking shoes (that are in the closet at home) for a four hour trek through the mud; or pack the rain jacket for an afternoon of showers, or even downpours, if it is not already with you. Here are a few tips on what to bring, if you are going to hike the Quetzal Trail, or just walk around town.
Boquete
The temperatures in Boquete are near-perfect year round, with the average range from the high 60's to the high 70's. The lush greenery is possible from ample rains, but showers often arrive in the late afternoon and clear out rather quickly. The heaviest rains come in the months June through December. All of this water, combined with rich, volcanic soils combine for a gardener's delight. Coffee, flowers and vegetables grow everywhere! Prospective land buyers should also know that strong winds can come along with the dry season, which help make our skies some of the cleanest and freshest in the world. Boquete is home to the extinct Volcan (volcano) Baru, the highest point in Panama at nearly 13,700 feet.
No matter what time of year you are coming, pack layers of clothing; t-shirts, long sleeve sweat shirts or technical fabric long sleeve sport shirts, rain/wind jacket. Even if you are just walking around town, the sun will be out one minute, then the clouds and wind roll in, and the temperature can drop 10 degrees in just a few minutes. There are many micro-climates within Boquete—so be prepared for all extremes. Good water proof hiking shoes are better than athletic shoes or flip-flops; for comfort and warmth. If you are going to Bocas del Toro during your Panama trip, the weather will be extremely different . One word: HOT. Dry season or rainy season, get ready to perspire, bring several changes of shirts for each day.
